Despite the junior basketball starting up, we are going to squeeze in a Science Homework Club as requested this week.  Don't let me down, now -  some of you better show up!  Unless you hear otherwise we will go ahead Thursday at 3:30 in the library.  See you there!

Hello everyone. In the upcoming days there will be a few important tests and due dates.

Biology 30: We have begun our Genetics unit. The exam on the Cells unit is rapidly approaching. It will be on December 1st period I. Do not  and I mean do not wait to the last minute to study. This is a very thorough exam on the entire cell unit.

Physics 30: Our Energy exam is this upcoming Tuesday

Biology 20: Be sure to have your Fun fungal fact smart board presentation ready to go when it is your classes turn

Chemistry 20: If you have not handed in your Gases review sheet it is now overdue.

Science 9: Keep those journals up to date. We are studying the modern atomic theory right now so be sure to let me know if you need the notes.


Study club is still going on. Be sure to listen to the announcements as to the dates and times. Basketball is starting now so the day may vary week to week.

This is a very short week so hopefully we'll be able to get a few things done

Science 9: We will be having a lesson on the history of the modern atomic theory. There will be a Smart board presentation along with some notes and also we will be working on our note taking skill.

Biology 20: Out next Kingdom is the Fungi. An introductory video will be followed by a smart board lesson and a few notes. During this unit we will be doing an internet project where you will be using the smart board to tell us some Fun Fungal Facts

Biology 30: We have just finished our section on cellular respiration. This marks the end of out Cells unit. After a review assignment for respiration we will be tidying things up and getting ready for the exam. Please note this is a very thorough exam on the unit and you should not leave your review to the last moment.

Accounting 10: The chapter 5 exam is tomorrow

Physics 30: This week we will be finishing collisions and introducing the concepts of Work, Energy, and Power if time permits. Since we only have one class this week I doubt we'll get started on that but one can always hope. Just a note the rest of the course will be going quickly and we still have a couple of large units to accomplish so now is not the time to relax. Remember you will be writing the departmental in January

Science Homework Club

For all of you super-cool students who want to hang out in the library and get some help with your science homework (or just understanding what you're doing in class) Mr. C will be available for Science Homework Club again this week on Thursday from right after school until whenever it takes to clear up all of the questions you have.  By the tone of the previous post I'm thinking some of you should be coming to hang out and finish up some projects!  Or just to say...

Let's get that homework done, girls!  Don't be afraid to ask for help - at lunch, after school, whenever you need it.  We're all in this together :)

Important: Report cards will be out soon. Some of you have not completed all of your hand in assignments. A mark of zero has been entered as a result. If you wish to change this please complete the work you have missed and the mark will be changed. Homework Club

For anyone who is interested in extra help with biology, chemistry, or physics, Mr. C will be hosting a homework help group in the library from 3:20ish to 4:30 on Thursday, October 21. Thursdays will not necessarily be the permanent day for the group, just for next week due to Variety Night on Tuesday. There may or may not be snacks. Let us know what you think of this idea, girls - you know that if nobody shows up he won't keep doing it! Either leave comments or tell Mr. or Mrs. C what day would work best or if you like the idea at all.

Biology 20 Ecosystem Assignment Clarification

Hi girls, Mrs. C guest posting here. After listening to your anxiety during study periods and after school in the library, I have tried to pin Mr. C down on exactly what his expectations are for this assignment. He has referred me back to the rubric he posted previously and when I pushed him further for a word count said, and I quote, "In my opinion, to sufficiently cover the topic, you would require approximate 2-3000 words. That is depending on your skill as a writer." And I am assuming he means 2000, not actually 2. This is only if you are writing an essay, of course. If you're doing some other kind of project you're not worrying about a word count. Hope this helps.

So here are this weeks plans. I like to let everyone know what is coming up so if you are going to be gone you can get a head start.


Bio 20: We will set out the due date for the Eco project next class. please be sure to consult the earlier listing as to how the project will be evaluated. You should have all of your reseach by now and be well under way in putting it all together. For those of you doing an essay you may want to consider handing it in on your USB so all I have to do is copy it to my desk top. This saves paper and you can't blame your printer.

Bio 30: This week we will be doing the Facebook posting project. Use you class time well as the due date will be early next week.

Sci 9: Lessons continue on out genetics unit. There may be a pop quiz on mono hybrid crosses using dominance or codominance in your future. We will be learning about the differences between sexual and asexual reproduction as well as the topics of Mitosis and meiosis. There will be quite a few journal entries to make so be sure to keep on top of things

Chemistry 20: The main focus of this week is learning how to read and write chemical formulas using oxidation numbers. On top of that we will be introducing the concept of the Mole. Make sure you have batteries in your pencil and your calculators sharpened.

Accounting 10: There will be an exam on chapter two at the end of the week. We will be beginning chapter 3 next class so be sure to start reading.

Physics 30: We will be doing problems involving the analytical method and non uniform motion. There will be a hand in assignment coming this week after we have practiced with a few problems. A test will soon follow. Be sure to ask questions in class. Do not be shy as if you are confused the odds are the others are as well.


This is for every one: If you are having troubles ASK FOR HELP !!!!! My mind reading abilities have dulled considerably as I've gotten older. Don't sit in silence and do nothing and hope it goes away. Ostriches bury their head in the sand and hope the lions run away. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that does not work. Just come get me at noon or in the morning for help.
If I look grumpy I probably am but don't let that stop you.

used in the exam on this topic and act as an encourage for people to read your
posting.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school everyone. Coincidentally, bowhunting season opens this week, so I am in a great mood and you will notice I have not given homework to any of my classes! I have to comment on the eerily quiet bio class yesterday - what was up with that? Not that we want total mayhem but you can all relax a little bit - hearing the clock ticking is a little creepy.
Anyway, please remember to faithfully check the blog to stay current on assignments and test dates - that is YOUR responsibility. You are in charge of your own success.
However, never be afraid to approach me for help or to ask for clarification during class if you're having trouble understanding a concept. I am here to help you.
Now, for our "Walk in the Word" moment let's try Proverbs 16:21
"The wise man is known by his common sense, and a pleasant teacher is the best."
So you all demonstrate your common sense by keeping up with your work and coming to me with your problems EARLY, and I will be a pleasant teacher (as always:))

Finals are Finally Here !

Well that time is here again. Here is some advice for each of my classes:

Science 9: Do not forget to have your cheat sheet ready by this Friday. Also, make sure your calculators are sharp and your
pencils have fresh batteries. The exam will be on our Electricity unit and will offer a variety of questions.



Science 10: The big topics are Ecology, Physics, and Chemistry. You will be required to answer questions very similar to all of
the questions we have dealt with in class. Do not to forget to review the Chem and Ecology units as well as
physics. You too will need to have your cheat sheets ready for Friday.


Biology 20: This exam will survey all the vocabulary we have gone through. There will be an essay question on this exam so
be sure to take your time and do a good job on this as this is a major part of the final.


Biology 30: The big area of focus is on systems. There is a lot of information you will need to remember so don't take things
for granted. Remember that your final can have a significant impact on your final grade and now is not the time to
coast.


Chemistry 30: This will be a very comprehensive exam. The cheat sheets will be due by this Friday. What I said for Bi 30
applies here as well



A note for everyone. This week is the last week you have an opportunity to ask questions and have things explained. If you have been studying you will have questions. Be sure to ask questions. The only way to eliminate confusion and to do your best on the finals is to make the effort to study and get help. Doing nothing and expecting magic space dust to fall on your head and give you universal knowledge is not a good plan.

Bio 20: Time is going fast. Many of you have not kept up with the weekly postings and wall sharing. Missing deadlines will affect your mark.

Bio 30: We are working on the circulatory system.

Physics 20: Be sure to have the questions on the Colour chapter ready to discuss next week.

Sci 9: We are now working on our space timelines. beginning next week we will start reviewing for the final. All of your work needs t be completed by the end of next week as there will be no more class time after that.

Physics 20: The Optics poster assignment should be ready to hand in early next week.

Biology 30: The fish dissections are due

Sci 10: The Physics review sheets are to be worked on for the next two classes then they will be due next week

Sci 9: Our space unit consists of several projects. Be sure that you do not fall behind.

Chem 30: The year is coming to an end very soon. I would suggest starting your review very very soon

Sci 10: Some of you will be receiving notifications about assignments that are past due. Remember it is your responsibility to do these and if you were absent you need to find out the details about missed assignments. You can ask me or any of your classmates for help. Science 10 is a compulsory credit and not doing your work isn't going to help

Chem 30: We have an electrochemistry exam this Thursday. If you miss any exams you are expected to make them up as soon as
you return to school.

Bio 20: Work as usual on the major internet project. Some of you have missed your weekly updates. Do not forget the updates for the remaining weeks. Also, the due date we agreed upon has to be respected as I will not be able to evaluate any project not completed on time.

Bio: 30 Exam at the end of this week on the Endocrine system. Also' we will be doing a fish dissection this week.

Chem 30: We've just finish half reactions. This unit is coming to an end and there will be a worksheet assigned later this week.


Physics 20: We are going to be starting our chapter on lenses

Sci 10: be sure all your graphs are done. Also' bring your calculators to class and be prepared to solve problems

Sci 9: The " Cultures and Space" essay will be due this week

In addition to the periodic table at the bottom of the page, I've added a link to another really interesting one. This one is color coded in several ways: it tells you whether an element is solid, liquid, or gas at room temperature, and then for each one gives a list of how the element is used as an element, an alloy, and a compound. For instance, if you click on zinc you will see that in black text, indicating as an element, it is used as a corrosion-resistant coating. Then in red text, indicating as an alloy, it is used in car parts and in brass. Finally, in blue text, indicating as a compound, it is used in cosmetics and as a white pigment in rubber. There is a key to explain the use of the table and a ton of interesting information.

For those of you wondering what you will ever do with your knowledge of physics after you leave high school, here is a new link for you. At "Sound Science with Sarah Tulga" you can learn from a fellow student how to use the physics of sound to construct your own musical instruments. Imagine how thrilled Miss Campbell will be when you are able to accompany the band on your homemade didgeridoo or glockenspiel! I'm just saying...

For anyone behind in their assignments I suggest you get them in. This long weekend is a great time to catch up. Remember that grades are based on completed work. Failing to hand in assignments will not help in any way.

Chemistry 30: Today we will begin our Energy in Chemistry unit. Remember that next week we will have our exam on Unit II

Physics 20: The review project will be completed today and the assignment will be given
next class. Be sure to get a copy of the information sheets as well as the
assignment.

Sci 10: today note were given on " How compounds form "

Sci 9: We are taking notes on parallel and series circuits. Also' Ohm's law was
introduced.

Physics 20: We are working on sound and wave interference. Be sure to do all assigned questions that go along with the theory

Sci 9: We are working on our electricity unit. The end of the unit is not too far away so be sure those journals are up to date.

Bio 20: We dissected a Crayfish today. Next class you will complete the diagrams then they will be due.

Chemistry 30: The solutions unit is almost done. Next class we will have an assignmnet followed by an exam

Career Ed. Be sure your collages are ready to present next class.

Biology 20: The grasshopper dissection is due and the crayfish is next. Essays are way
past due.

Physics 20: Currently on Sound unit

Biology 30: We will be having a test on the skeletal and muscular system next week

Chemistry 30: The second review assignment is due and next week is a test on Unit I

Science 10: Your ecosystem projects will be due Feb 26th. If you are planning to do a presentation you must show that work is complete and you are ready to present.
