Just a reminder that Sci 10 brochures are due this friday.
Physics 20: You have a test on mirrors next week.
A reminder to everyone that the end of this school year is approaching soon so don't save your review to the last minute. Start now and get help on the tough stuff. Just knock on the staffroom door at noon or catch me in the halls and I'll be happy to help.
Don't be shy. My bark is worse than my bite.
Science Joke of the Day (Yes there actually are science jokes!)
Two molecules are walking down the street and they run in to each other.
One says to the other, "Are you all right?" "No, I lost an electron!" "Are you sure?" "I'm positive!
My favorite things

Biology 20 is on Facebook !!!!!

Everyone in Biology 20 needs to go to Facebook and put in a request to join " Mr. C's Cyber Science " group. This is a closed group so you need to be very special to join. Don't worry I won't be able to see your Facebook page and find out the last time you cheated in math class. LOL. We will be able to share ideas and help each other out. This will also be a way for me to check your progress and assess the quality of your work. Yes this will be for marks

Science is SO not boring!
Hi girls - Mrs. C guest posting here! Quinn showed me this on the "best of you tube" and I thought these tricks were super fun. Sort of reminded me of the Encyclopedia of Immaturity. Maybe you can get Mr. C to demonstrate some of them in class:)

And this is why you need to pay attention in biology class...
See? Science is useful even when shopping!

Amazing Science Facts With Commentary
A list of quirky science facts copied from listverse.com - some interesting, some gross...
1. There are 62,000 miles of blood vessels in the human body – laid end to end they would circle the earth 2.5 times. Our blood vessels can travel the earth and yet we're stuck here in P.A. - not fair.
2. The risk of being struck by a falling meteorite for a human is one occurrence every 9,300 years. Never going to happen during science, no matter how much you might hope:)
3. Blood sucking hookworms inhabit 700 million people worldwide. EWWWWWW!!!! But perhaps a new Twilight-type book in the making, Mr. C style?
4. The highest speed ever achieved on a bicycle is 166.94 mph by Fred Rompelberg. Hope Mrs. Ikert doesn't get any ideas!
5. The oceans contain enough salt to cover all the continents to a depth of nearly 500 feet. I'm thinking french fries!
6. Polar Bears can run at 25 miles an hour and jump over 6 feet in the air. Who would have thought?
7. Polar Bears are nearly undetectable by infrared cameras, due to their transparent fur. Invisible, plus running after you at 25 miles per hour - sheesh! Never provoke a polar bear!
8. The average person accidentally eats 430 bugs each year of their life. Do not run away from polar bears with your mouth open!
9. The temperature on the surface of Mercury exceeds 430 degrees C during the day, and, at night, plummets to minus 180 degrees centigrade. Even worse than Saskatchewan
10. The evaporation from a large oak or beech tree is from ten to twenty-five gallons in twenty-four hours. Tree sweat??!!

Poetic Periodic Table
In honour of national poetry month, a link to a periodic table of the elements which, when you click on an element will present you with a variety of poems about the element. For example:
Selenium, sweet Selenium, you're in my cup of tea. (Green Tea)
But if I have too much of you, you cause Toxicity!
I take you in my vitamin and you're in stainless steel,
Before I did a report on you, I didn't know you were real!
Selenium, sweet Selenium, you exhibit photovoltaic action,
When I learned that about you, imagine my reaction!
You're a semiconductor, and a photographic toner, too.
But what's more, Selenium, I love you!
By Lindsay

Selenium
in 6th grade I had to do a project on selenium
and I did not know how to pronounce it
but soon I was faced with a bigger problem
we had to explain the uses of the element we did a
project on
and selenium is often strip mined
which I didn't want to promote
this is not a humorous poem. By ttk

(As you may have guessed, not really posted by Mr. C.)
